ATELIER: The Story of Brownmill Company is a short documentary about Justis Pitt, Kwaku Agyemang, and Taha Shimou – the three young men behind the budding Newark-born clothing empire Brownmill Company.
Through sentimental archival footage, mixed media, and verité-style observational footage, this documentary will provide an intimate and inspiring portrayal of how three young black men turned their love of art and fashion into a business that has forever changed the fabric of their community.
Anchored by a kind of handmade aesthetic and slightly stylized cinematography, this film explores overarching themes of brotherhood, fashion design, black ownership, and the importance of building community through art. Beyond celebrating black entrepreneurial excellence, this film aims to foster dialogue on legacy, representation, cultural heritage preservation, and the power of collective creativity.
